All the suffering in the world comes from seeking pleasure for oneself. 

 All the happiness in the world comes from seeking pleasure for others.

Śantideva

Die Dämonen für Dämonen zu halten,

das ist eine Gefahr.

Sie als leer zu erkennen,

das ist der Weg.

Sie zu begreifen als das, was sie sind,

das ist die Befreiung

.

Sie als Vater und Mutter zu erkennen,

das ist ihr Ende.

Wenn wir sie als Schöpfungen des Geistes gelten lassen,

dann verwandeln sie sich in Ausschmückungen.

Wissen wir derart damit umzugehen,

dann ist das Ganze befreit.

"All worldly pursuits have but the one unavoidable end, which is sorrow: acquisitions end in dispersion; buildings in destruction; meetings in separation; births, in death. Knowing this, one should, from the very first, renounce acquisition and heaping up, and building, and meeting; and faithful to the commands of an eminent guru, set about realizing the Truth (which has no birth or death)."
